چکیده
CASE HISTORY A 10-year-old boy was admitted with pain in the right iliac fossa for two days, which was made worse by movement and coughing. He was not nauseated and he did not vomit. He had not eaten for two days. Pulse rate was 70 oer min and temperature 37.4°C. There was marked tenderness with rebound in the right iliac fossa. On rectal examination he was very tender on the right side. White cell count was 8,300 per ml. A diagnosis of acute appendicitis was made. At operation a small piece of greater omentum which had undergone torsion was found lying directly beneath the incision. The twisted omentum measured 5 x 4 x 4 cm and formed part of the right lower quadrant of the greater omentum (Fig). The appendix was not inflamed. The terminal ileum appeared normal and a Meckel's diverticulum was not found. The piece of twisted omentum was ligated and excised and the appendix was removed. Histology revealed infarction of the greater omentum due to primary torsion and a normal aDDendix. "I /.

PRIMARY TORSION AND IDIOPATHIC SEGMENTAL INFARCTION OF OMENTUM
Torsion and infarction of the greater omentum are two rare clinical situations which present as an acute abdomen. Nevertheless, knowledge concerning these two problems can help the surgeon in proper diagnosis and treatment. Since the first report on primary torsion by Eitel in 1899, a few hundred more have been reported and some collective reviews published to date. In this study we will p...

ABSTRACT Primary or spontaneous infarction of omentum is a rare disease producing acute abdominal condition. This is due to vascular changes in circulation of greater omentum. Infarction can be caused by torsion of omentum around the adhesion band following an operation, or it can occur spontaneously without an adhesion and operation. Rarely this condition is not due to torsion a...

متن کاملCT Findings of Primary Torsion of the Greater Omentum with Segmental Infarction: Case Report
infarction is a rare condition. Infarction of the omentum causes localized acute abdominal pain and can therefore mimic other surgical emergencies. There is little information on this condition to be found in the radiological literature, because it is not usually diagnosed until surgical intervention, being previously diagnosed as acute appendicitis or acute cholecystitis (1, 2). There are only...
متن کاملCommon presentation uncommon diagnosis primary omental torsion.
Primary omental torsion is a rare cause of acute abdomen and mimics common acute abdominal condition like appendicitis. Torsion of the greater omentum may be primary or secondary. Here we present 2 cases admitted through emergency with the pain in right iliac fossa with this unusual diagnosis.
متن کاملTorsion of the Greater Omentum: Preoperative Computed Tomographic Diagnosis and Therapeutic Laparoscopy
Primary or idiopathic segmental infarction of the greater omentum is a rare surgical condition. We describe a case of omental torsion in an adult patient who was diagnosed preoperatively by contrast-enhanced computed tomography and managed by laparoscopy.
